Islam
الإسلام is a monotheistic religion of Abraham and articulated by the
Qur'an, an Islamic holy book considered by its adherents is the literal
word of God (Allah), and for the vast majority of followers, also by the
teachings, such as regulatory and forms life (or sunna) of the last Messenger of God to mankind, Muhammad; it
also consists of the prophetic traditions (or hadith) of Muhammad (c.
632 CE 570-8 June), considered by most of them to be the last prophet of
God. An adherent of Islam is called a Muslim (sometimes spelled Muslim).
Muslims believe that God is one and incomparable and the purpose of existence is to worship God. Muslims
also believe that Islam is the complete and universal version of a
primordial faith that was revealed many times through the prophets,
including Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus. They
maintain that previous messages and revelations have been partially
misunderstood or altered over time, but consider that the Arabic Qur'an
to be both the unaltered and the final revelation from God to mankind. Religious
concepts and practices include the five pillars of Islam, which are
basic concepts and obligatory acts of worship, and following Islamic
law, which affects virtually every aspect of life and society, providing
guidance on many issues of banking and welfare, family life and the environment.]
Most Muslims are two names: Sunni (75-90%) and Shia (10-20%). About
13% of Muslims live in Indonesia, the country's largest Muslim
majority, 25% in South Asia, 20% in the Middle East, and 15% in
sub-Saharan Africa. Sizable Muslim communities are also found in Europe, China, Russia, and the Americas. Converts and immigrant communities are found in almost all parts of the world. With
about 1.6 billion followers or 23% of the world's population, Islam is
the second religion in number of adherents and fastest growing religion
in the world.
